Bullet Shot Into Rumson Home, Man Charged, Prosecutor Says

The man was arrested and charged after a caller reported a bullet going through their window on Monday afternoon, prosecutors said.

RUMSON, NJ — A man has been arrested and charged after a bullet was reportedly shot through the window of a Rumson home on Monday afternoon, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

Terry Haupt, 42, of Red Bank, was charged with one count of certain persons not to possess a weapon, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon (rifle), and one count of possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine, Santiago said.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Rumson Police went to a home on Meadowbrooke Avenue for a reported bullet that went through the caller's window.

The remnants of a projectile were later found in the home, prosecutors said. Authorities have not provided a motive for the incident.

An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Rumson Police Department revealed that Haupt, who was found in the area, had a rifle and a large capacity ammunition magazine, and was not legally permitted to have a gun.

The case has been assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin J. Sidley of the Major Crimes Bureau.

Information on Haupt's legal representation was not readily available.
