Fair Haven Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Red Bank
House catches on fire after homeowner attempts to burn bee hive, officials say.
A fire tore through the attic of a South Street colonial Monday night, prompting response from several fire departments from throughout the Greater Red Bank area.
Red Bank Fire Chief John Mego said a home owner tried to burn a beehive in the attic of the home, and that the fire quickly grew out of control.
The fire broke out some time after 9:30 p.m. Heavy smoke was visible coming from the roof and attic windows as fire crews attacked the blaze from the inside of the house. Eventually, fire fighters cut holes in the roof to help assist in the fight.

The fire was knocked down at about 10:15 p.m. and considered under control at about 10:30 p.m., fire fighters on scene said, though many remain on the scene currently.
It appears as though no injuries were sustained in the fire.
