Authorities in Rumson are warning residents to remain vigilant and lock their homes amid an uptick in residential burglaries in the county.

RUMSON, NJ - Authorities in Rumson are warning residents to remain vigilant and lock their homes amid an uptick in residential burglaries in Monmouth County.

Burglaries in “certain towns” in Monmouth County have increased in the last two weeks, Rumson police said in a statement, in which burglars force entry through rear doors while homes are unoccupied.

Rumson Borough Police Department Detective Don Schneider told Patch Rumson was not one of the affected areas, and that the warning was only sent out for informational use.

The crimes are not tied to the ongoing car theft issue in New Jersey, police added.

“Please continue to lock your doors and arm any home alarm systems if you are going out, even if for a short time,” Rumson police said.
