Rumson's New Chief Of Police: Jeffrey Nixon Appointed By Council

Jeffrey S. Nixon, who was Officer in Charge since Jan. 1, is now formally appointed Rumson's police chief.

RUMSON, NJ —Rumson Police Chief Jeffrey S. Nixon has come up through the ranks of the Police Department over 33 years to be named to the post by the Borough Council recently.

Nixon, who had been Officer in Charge as of Jan. 1, replaces former Chief Scott Paterson, chief since 2013, who has retired.

"I'll be continuing to build on the professionalism of the department and support the members of the agency," said Nixon. He and his family are Rumson residents.

And Nixon also thanked Paterson. "I and the department appreciate all his service to the department and to the town of Rumson," Nixon said of Paterson.

During the July 11 Rumson Borough Council, Mayor Joseph K. Hemphill and members of Borough Council approved a resolution appointing Nixon to the position.

Nixon has a master's degree in Criminal Justice, with a focus on administration, he said.

During the meeting, Nixon took the oath of office surrounded by family and friends, as well as a number of local leaders.
