Our group, Friends of the Oceanic Bridge, have met with the Monmouth County Engineers, the NJ DOT, the Federal Hi-Way Authority, and numerous elected Officials about this project.

There continues to be confusion about the funding for a low draw bridge vs. a high fixed span bridge. The Federal Government will pay for a low draw bridge.

There are numerous examples of low draw bridges that have been paid for by the Federal Government. The Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine, Florida is one.  The Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge in Virginia is a 12 lane bascule draw bridge that carries both I-95 & I-49. These were massive project that had strong Historic and Community support getting the lower draw bridges built with Federal Funding.

Strong for a low draw bridge that is a major part of the decision process.

Please take the time and write a Public Comment for the Oceanic Bridge. The deadline is Oct. 26, 2011.
