More High End Vehicles Stolen from Rumson

Police departments are urging residents to keep their vehicles locked and to keep keys and valet keys out of their vehicles.

Police in both Rumson and Fair Haven are asking residents to remember to keep their cars locked once again.

“There have been numerous high-end car thefts in Monmouth, Bergen and Essex Counties, three specifically in Rumson on October 5,” said Richard Tobias, the Rumson Police Chief in an official statement.

Fair Haven was victim to a last month. Police say a resident reported a Land Rover and Mercedes stolen from their driveway on Fair Haven Rd. during dinnertime on September 27.

The Mercedez was recovered on October 4th when a police officer ran the plates of the parked car, police say.

Tobias said there is a connection between the incidents. “There is a luxury car theft ring operating in the 3 counties that specifically target high end vehicles that are left unlocked with a key in them, with most thefts occurring in the early morning hours,” said Chief Tobias.

Both and Patches have reported similar crimes in the recent weeks.

Detective Jesse Dykstra of the said that departments across the state who have experienced similar crimes are working together. “It’s a collaborative effort between towns who have had vehicles taken. It is also at the state level as well,” he said.

In addition to stolen cars, both towns have seen home burglaries as well. “Please keep doors to homes locked as well, as we have experienced some unrelated home burglaries with one this past weekend,” said Tobias.
