In 2020, Monmouth County received $31 million in federal funding to replace the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge across the Shrewsbury River.
The existing structure was "at the end of its service life" and required a complete replacement, according to the NJ Department of Transportation. The county proposed a movable bridge to replace the structure.
