Power Outage Briefly Closes Oceanic Bridge In Rumson/Middletown

An alert went out that a power outage closed the Oceanic Bridge over the Navesink River about noon Monday, but power was restored by 1 p.m.

RUMSON, NJ — A power outage at around noon Monday briefly closed the Oceanic Bridge, according to a borough alert, but it was reported as open by 1:30 p.m. on the borough website.

Borough police said power was restored and the bridge was operating normally with no impact on traffic.

Police reported the outage to the Monmouth County Bridge Department. The department was not immediately available to comment on the reason for the brief closure.

Oceanic Bridge is a Monmouth County bridge. According to the county website, the bridge was constructed in 1939 and needs "major rehabilitation or replacement." The county is conducting a study of the bridge with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), the website said.
