Remembering Patch Columnist Carolann McLoughlin Through Her Work
Services for McLoughlin begin Monday.

By Elaine Van Develde
Every writer wants to know that his or her words have somehow been remembered.
I have no doubt that former Patch columnist Carolann McLoughlin shared that sentiment. From Patch's inception and long before, she was writing on, offering her opinion, like it or not. And many liked it.
Though, it is clear from her work that she was not one to bask in accolades. Her sole sense of satisfaction came from knowing that she had done the right thing — following her heart and helping wherever and whenever she could.
Sadly, Carolann McLoughlin died on July 10 at the age of 70, having spoken her mind through the printed word and standing up for the things and people in which she wholeheartedly believed.
By all accounts, she loved her family, community and causes dearly and invested her heart and wordsmith skill in both.
Here, we remember her through some of her most popular columns. Scroll through and honor her memory with us.
Services for McLoughlin begin today, Monday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 380 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
RIP, Carolann. You are missed ...
