Rosh Hashanah Begins Wednesday Night, Congregation B'nai Israel Offers a Variety of Services

Residents in Rumson and Fair Haven will celebrate the Jewish New Year on Wednesday, September 28 through Friday, September 30.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on Wednesday and ends at sundown on Friday.

According to chabad.org, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, "Head of the Year" in Hebrew. The beginning of the Jewish year is signified with the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve according to the Torah.

Erev Rosh Hashanah: Wednesday, September 28th

Evening Service at 7:00 p.m.

Highlights: This relatively brief service will featur melodies only head on the evenings of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Rabbi Sultar will offer a story of hope and renewal and there will be a choir featured.

 

Rosh Hashanah Day 1: Thursday, September 29

- Sanctuary Service at 9:00 a.m.

Highlights: Ira Eckstein will offer a creative reflection on Avinu Malkeinu, Hillary Kramer will be the shofar blower and a choir will be featured during the musaf service.

In addition to the service that morning, there will also be the following;

- Jr. Congregation & Children's Services from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

- Tashlich at Marine Park, Red Bank at 5:30 p.m.

- Mincha and Maariv at 6:15 p.m.

Rosh Hashanah Day 2: Friday, September 30 

- Sanctuary Service at 9am

Highlights: Rabbi Sultar will blow shofar and a choir will be featured during musaf service.

- Jr. Congregation & Children's Services from 10:30am - 12:30pm

Erev Shabbat: Friday, September 3

- Service at 8pm

Shabbat Service: Saturday, October 1

- Service at 9:30am
