Route 36 Traffic Restored, Repairs In Progress: NJ DOT

JCP&L is currently making repairs on Route 36 in Sea Bright following a transformer fire on Sunday, officials said.

RUMSON, NJ — Repairs to Route 36 in Sea Bright are expected to be complete by Monday night following a transformer fire that took place on Sunday, NJ Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Schapiro said.

Route 36 was closed in both directions shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday due to the fire, Schapiro said.

At 5:35 a.m. on Monday, the NJ Department of Transportation posted that all lanes of Route 36 northbound were closed north of County Route 520 and Rumson Road in Sea Bright following the incident.

The southbound lane of Route 36 reopened around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, according to Schapiro, with northbound traffic restored by 10:30 a.m.

According to Schapiro, northbound traffic was restored by shifting with southbound traffic using the southbound shoulder and northbound traffic using the southbound travel lane.

JCP&L is currently making repairs in the area, which are expected to be complete by Monday night, according to Schapiro.
