Rumson PBA Local 345 is hosting its 8th annual Crab Tournament at the Rumson Borough Hall boat ramp on August 9th from 5pm until 9pm. The tournament will be for the most crabs and the largest crab caught, with trophies rewarded for first, second, and third place winners in both categories. As with last year's tournament, female crabs will not be accepted.
There will be a barbeque and raffle at the Rumson First Aid building directly following the tournament. The raffle will be for prizes donated from local businesses in Rumson.
Boat registration for the event is $65, and the police department requests payment for registration to be made at the Rumson Police headquarters by August 1st. Last minute registration and payment on the night of the event will only be accepted until 6pm.
The PBA is also selling T-shirts and sweatshirts commemorating the event. Short-sleeved t-shirts are $20, long-sleeved t-shirts are $25, and hooded sweatshirts are $30. The items can be purchased directly at Rumson Police headquarters or at the tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament registration and sale of clothing will be going once again this year to wetlands conservation for Ducks Unlimited, a national nonprofit group, as well as the National Guard 102nd Calvary B Troop of North Jersey, in a show of gratitude for their assistance to Rumson during Superstorm Sandy.
Any questions regarding the crab tournament can be directed to Police Chief Scott Paterson or Detective Chris Isherwood at 732-842-0500.
