Trapped Horse Rescued In Monmouth County

Thanks to a special rescue on Thursday morning, a local horse named Magik is now safe after his owner found him trapped in a small gulley.

TINTON FALLS, NJ — A local horse is now safe after he was found trapped in a small gulley on Thursday morning.

Around 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 Chief Sara Weimer said stations were called to Shark River Road to help a male horse trapped in a small gulley and unable to get up.

The horse, named Magik, was in need of assistance after his owner found him trapped in the gulley on Thursday morning, Weimer told Patch.

According to Monmouth County SPCA Executive Director Ross Licitra, Magik is an older horse who suffers from some arthritic issues and accidentally slid into the gulley along the fence line. SPCA officers were dispatched to assist with his rescue.

Once chief and rescue crews arrived at the scene, Weimer said they used the grip-hoist, infinity loops and ropes to safely pull Magik out.

From there, Magik was then flipped to his stronger, posterior side and was able to stand on his own.

After being called for the rescue at 8:38 a.m., Weimer said Magik was upright by 9:35 a.m. The horse was then safely returned to his barn, Licitra said.

“[Magik] was well and is expected to make a full recovery per the veterinarian on scene,” the fire company said in an online post:

Agencies that assisted in rescuing Magik include the Tinton Falls Police Department, Wall Township Police Department, the Monmouth County SPCA, Monmouth County Hazmat and Tinton Falls Public Works.
