There are two events coming up this Friday and Saturday, April 26/27 at Sandy Hook: A walk through the holly forest and dune grass planting.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ — The American Littoral Society is hosting two events coming up this Friday and Saturday, April 26/27 at Sandy Hook: A guided walk through the holly forest at 10 a.m. this Friday (coincidentally, that's national Arbor Day!) and dune grass planting on Saturday, April 27 — volunteers needed!

Some of the oldest American holly trees in the country can be found among Sandy Hook’s nearly 300 acres of holly forest. We will hike through the restricted 64-acre maritime forest area and get to see an undisturbed holly forest with some of its oldest, rarest and largest trees. Waterproof footwear is recommended. Meet in the Spermaceti Parking Lot (Between LOTS D and E) at 10:00 a.m. Friday. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. You can stay as long or as little as you want. Free.

On Saturday, April 27, the American Littoral Society will be hosting a beach grass planting on Sandy Hook. Everyone is invited to help plant American beach grass on dunes in need of restoration.

This volunteer event is open to the public and will also involve students who have been growing beachgrass plants in area schools through the American Littoral Society's Beach Grasses in Classes program.
