Second Annual Two Rivers Decoy And Arts Show Coming Up On Feb. 28

Event sponsored by the New Jersey Wildfowl Carvers Association and Ducks Unlimited.

Travel back in time. See how decoys were made along the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers, Barnegat Bay and Delaware River in the early 1800’s. Watch a simple block of cedar transform into a working decoy capable of luring ducks flying overhead into the chilly waters of rivers and bays. Share the stories of hunters, carvers, and more.

Where can you indulge in all of this? Come to the 2nd Annual Two Rivers Exhibition of Sporting Collectible Art at the Forrestdale School in Rumson from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2015. Admission is $5, free for children under 12.

Exhibitors from the mid-Atlantic region will display contemporary and antique-style birds and decoys. Nature will be depicted in watercolor, acrylic, oils, photographs, metal, pottery and other art forms.

Meet featured artist, Jamie Hand from Cape May County, who has been sharing his knowledge of the history of decoy making with New Jersey historians and decoy carvers for over 40 years. Also on hand will be Honorary Show Chairman and Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson, who has recently taken up carving in addition to his highly regarded leadership roles as and active membership in Ducks Unlimited.

Have an old decoy at home and wondering if it is worth any money? Monmouth County’s own Jon Frank from Frank and Frank Collectibles will be on hand to offer you advice. Children and adults alike can discover their own inner artist by painting a shorebird for a nominal donation.

Lunch will be available. A silent auction, raffle, and 50/50 will be held throughout the day.

Spend an hour or more viewing our carving competition area, where some of the finest carvers from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Ohio will compete for Best in Show honors in various categories. Youth carvers will also be on hand to show what they have been working on and competing with their finest decoys.

This event is brought to you by NJ Wildfowl Carvers and Monmouth County Ducks Unlimited. All proceeds support Ducks Unlimited efforts to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl.
