Second 'Smash & Grab' Car Burglary Reported At Rumson Park

Car window broken, purse stolen from patron of Meadow Ridge Park in Rumson, possibly the work of the so-called "Felony Lane Gang."

RUMSON, NJ — A woman's car was vandalized and burglarized with her purse stolen after she enjoyed an early evening walk with a friend at Meadow Ridge Park on Monday, police in Rumson reported.

The so-called "smash and grab" burglary - perhaps the work of what is known as the "Felony Lane Gang" - took place on Monday, Aug. 28, at about 7 p.m., police said.

The owner of the car reported that she had arrived at the park on Ridge Road at 6:15 p.m. and walked with a friend for 45 minutes.

When she returned to her car, the rear passenger side window was broken and her purse was missing, according to a public information report by Sgt. Christopher Isherwood.

Patrols determined that a window punch device had been used unsuccessfully on other windows before breaking that window to gain entry.

This burglary matches the style of another burglary at Meadow Ridge Park in early June.

These burglaries fit the pattern of the Felony Lane Gang that frequently travels the Eastern seaboard committing these crimes, according to police.

Police urge residents or those using the park to keep valuables out of sight or secured in the trunk of the vehicle when left for extended periods of time in public parking areas.

Do not approach or intervene if you witness this type of crime in process, police advise.
