Watch Out For Email Phishing Scam In Rumson

Scammers are emailing residents with threats to release harmful videos of them if Bitcoin is not sent, police said.

RUMSON, NJ — Rumson Police are warning the public of an email phishing scam aiming to steal residents’ money.

According to police, scammers are sending emails with the recipient’s name, address and an image of their home, as well as threats to release harmful videos of the recipient if Bitcoin is not sent to them.

In addition to these threats, police said there’s usually a QR code attached to the email.

Police are advising residents to not respond to these emails and to not scan the QR code.

“These scammers are using public information to attempt to steal from you,” police said. “Please be mindful and block/delete any of these messages.”
