Happy Monday, R-FH area friends and fans!
Yes, summer is now in full swing: school is out, meetings are at a seasonal minimum and people in the area are enjoying the beach and river.
On the subject of water, last week, many gathered at Sea Bright Public Beach to rally against a liquified natural gas terminal proposed by Liberty Natural Gas for the deep waters roughly 20 miles off the coast of Sea Bright and surrounding towns.
Environmentalists are hoping Gov. Chris Christie will veto the proposal as he did, with it in a slightly altered state, a couple of years ago. Click here to find out more.
We also found out that Sea Bright won the Benjamin Moore Main Street Matters contest and will be the recipient of a downtown makeover. And Fair Haven's own Olympian, Connor Jaeger, swam his way to yet another success with more to come.
Then, we tooled around the towns with our new Patch app and took some photos of strange things to be explained this week. One was a pic of something shiny embossed with an animal-looking decoration. We'll be back with an answer and some follow-up to where and what it is.
We also took a pic town by the river and asked where, exactly, on the banks of the Navesink another spot is and today we'll offer an explanation with a little bit of interesting history on the place.
As for more this week … Monday night is Fair Haven Borough Council meeting night and while it's usually a slow summer season for most towns, Fair Haven has gone to one meeting a week and has plenty to workshop on the agenda.
It looks like, among other things revisited, the idea of banning smoking in public parks is up for discussion again. And, the River Road Streetscape East as well as the McCarter Park and Pond projects are going to be talked about as well.
Then there's the sidewalk cafe matter to look into. While council is mulling that one, we'll be choosing a business to profile. Hmmm … we'll surprise you. And we'll take a look at the status of the beloved post-Sandy Sea Bright Beach this summer.
And, there's something we'll be looking back (and to the near future) on — and RFH reunion or two coming soon. We've also just learned, with great sadness, that iconic former Knollwood teacher, Mr. Z (for Zakanych, has passed away. Of course, we will remember Mr. Z with a story.
That's all for now. If we forgot anything, be sure to let us know in the comments section below. Happy week to come, all. See you around town! ;)
