Chef From Scotch Plains Competes On 'Jeopardy!'

Francis Englert is the sous-chef at Darby Road Pub in Scotch Plains. He was also a contestant on 'Jeopardy!' Wednesday night.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains residents may have recognized a familiar face on their screens Wednesday night, as local Chef Francis Englert was a contestant on "Jeopardy!"

Englert is the sous-chef at Darby Road Pub in Scotch Plains, and he competed on last night's "Jeopardy!" against returning champion Lloyd Sy, as well as newbie Sarah Palmer from Monterrey, California..

Unfortunately, Englert did not win the Jan. 4 competition but came in second place behind Sy who ended with $29,088 after successfully answering the Final Jeopardy question.

Sy ended Ray Lalonde's 13-time winning streak on Tuesday, who amassed a total of $386,400. After two days of competing, Lalonde has earned $53,578.

Englert trained at the International Culinary Center and earned a professional certificate in 2016. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature/Letters from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002.
