SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ — The 2022 General Election is quickly approaching, and it is important Scotch Plains and Fanwood residents know who is on the ballot and how they can vote this year.

Here is a guide for Scotch Plains-Fanwood voters, including polling locations, how to vote early or by mail and what candidates you can expect to see on the ballot this year:

The Ballot

Six candidates are running for three open seats on the Scotch Plains Township Council this year.

The candidates include Republican Brian Johdos, Keith Dematteo and Donald Stanzione, as well as Democrats Elizabeth Stamler, Roshan White and Matt Adams.

There are also three candidates running for two seats on the Scotch Plains Board of Education. These seats are three-year terms.

In Fanwood, two seats are open on the Town Council. Democrats Katherine Mitchell and Gina Berry are running uncontested.

For Fanwood's Board of Education, two candidates are running for one seat. Incumbent Amy Winkler will face off against Garry Morris.

Scotch Plains and Fanwood residents will also get to vote for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In the 7th Congressional District, current Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski is running against Republican Tom Kean Jr.

How To Vote

There are several ways you can vote this year:

Vote By Mail

The deadline to apply by mail for a mail-in ballot is Tuesday, Nov. 1. The deadline to apply in-person at the Elizabeth and Westfield County Clerk Offices for a mail-in ballot is Monday, Nov. 7 at 3:00 PM. Mail-in ballots can be returned in person or by mail to the Union County Board of Elections office, or at the secure ballot drop box located at the County Clerk’s Office at 300 North Avenue.

Early In-Person Voting
Union County residents have the option to vote early at specified locations throughout the county beginning on Saturday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 6. Locations, dates, and times for early voting are available on the Union County Board of Elections website.

In-Person Voting on Election Day
The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8. Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A list of Scotch Plains polling locations can be found here, and Fanwood here.
