SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Local boy scout Luka Culjak, who is part of Troop 104 in Scotch Plains, has successfully raised over $2,000 for a service project to benefit Brunner Elementary School.

Achieving the Eagle Scout status is one of the highest honors a scout can receive, and one of the most important requirements to attain this rank is the planning and executing a service project, that benefits the community. For Culjak's service project, he is raising funds to build a reading bench and little library at Brunner Elementary School.

According to his GoFundMe page, Culjak said his project will require purchasing necessary materials to build and install the bench and library, as well as gardening materials to enhance Children's Garden with new plants and mulch.

"Even though I have saved some funds I would appreciate if you can contribute to this large undertaking," Culjak wrote. "My goal for this project is to raise $1,200. This will cover the costs of materials (wood, stain, gravel, mulch, plants, etc), as well as the rental and purchase of tools and supplies."

Culjak is hoping to raise funds now so that he can build the little library in time for the next school year.
