Scotch Plains, Fanwood Receive Local Aid Grants
The Local Aid grants will fund street, safety and quality-of-life improvements.

The State of New Jersey announced municipalities across Union County will be sharing more than $4 million in local aid grants to advance street, safety and quality-of-life-improvements.
In total, 376 municipalities across the state successfully competed for $78.75 million in municipal aid grants, according to a report from NJ.com Thirteen other grants were issued under the Transit Village, Local Bikeway, and Safe Streets to Transit programs, totaling $3 million.
According to New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox, many of the grants will support roadway repairs after a brutal winter.

Fanwood will be receiving $220,000 in grants to help fund improvements on Madison Avenue. Scotch Plains will be receiving $120,355 to help improvements on Glenside Avenue.
In total, 20 Union County municipalities will be receiving grants, totaling $3,877,355 in awards and an additional $345,230 in urban allotment, bringing the award total to $4,222,585 for the county.

All of the grants will be funded through the New Jersey Transportation Trust fund, without burdening local taxpayers, according to the report.
