Scotchwood Florist In Fanwood Celebrates 50 Years In Business

Owner Dale Flowers, a third-generation florist, said his convenient last name is just 'one of life's great coincidences.'

FANWOOD, NJ — A long-standing staple in Fanwood, Scotchwood Florist, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a customer appreciation day on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The South Avenue shop, owned and operated by Lori and Dale Flowers (no pun intended), first opened in 1972 after Lori’s family, the DeMilts, purchased the former Crowder’s Home Ranch, which was a home and garden center.

Today, online flower sales are huge and, in the case of Scotchwood, helped save their business during COVID.

“The website exploded,” Dale Flowers said. “It carried us through. And to this day it’s a major part of our daily business.”

Flowers is a third-generation florist, originally from Baltimore where his family had a shop for 60 years. He said his convenient last name is just “one of life’s great coincidences.”

Flowers attributes the success of the flower shop to “Hard work and customer care."

"We care about what we’re selling to customers, and if that continues, people come back,” he said.

Scotchwood Florist's customer appreciation day on Saturday will include giveaways and specials.

“We want to thank the people of Fanwood for supporting us for 50 years,” Flowers said.
