Union County's Sydney McLaughlin Wins Second Olympic Gold Medal
McLaughlin, a Union Catholic HS of Scotch Plains graduate, goes from "Syd The Kid" to "The Golden Girl."

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Sydney McLaughlin, a 2017 graduate of Union Catholic Regional High School, went from "Syd The Kid" to "The Golden Girl" when she won her second gold medal in the 4x400-meter team relay at the Tokyo Olympics.
On her 22nd birthday, McLaughlin set the pace for the U.S. team when she kicked off the race with a giant lead completing her opening leg in 49.96.
McLaughlin completed the race alongside 2020 Trenton High School graduate Athing Mu, 19, Allyson Felix, and Dalilah Muhammad.
