Man Had Loaded Gun Inside Secaucus Hospital, Police Say

At 9:44 a.m. Tuesday, a Hudson Regional Hospital employee called Secaucus Police to report a person in the hospital had a gun.

SECAUCUS, NJ — At 9:44 a.m. Tuesday, an employee of Hudson Regional Hospital called Secaucus Police to report that a person in the hospital was in possession of a handgun.

Responding Secaucus Police officers located the man and recovered a fully loaded Springfield Hellcat semi-automatic 9mm handgun, said police.

Esai J. Baskerville, 23, of Irvington, was placed under arrest. He also had an active warrant from Newark with a bail of $5,000 with a 10% option.

“I commend the hospital staff for immediately reporting this incident to the police,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “Unlawfully possessing firearms is becoming way too common, but I am hopeful our criminal justice system will hold him accountable.”

He was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun [2C:39-5b(1)], Possession of Handgun Ammunition [2C:58-3.3b] and Possession of a Handgun in a Health Care Facility [2C:58-4.6a(21)].
