Several Homes On First Street Evacuated After Inert Grenade Found

Several homes on First Street in Secaucus were evacuated by police Sunday after someone found a grenade:

SECAUCUS, NJ — Several homes on First Street were evacuated by police Sunday after someone found a grenade inside a home, said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller.

However, it was not a live grenade; the grenade turned out to be inert.

This happened at 7:46 p.m. Sunday on First Street between Front and Center, said the police chief.

"A couple of surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution and (residents) were allowed back home within 15 minutes when it was determined there was not a live grenade," said Miller.

Miller stressed it was a false alarm, and said "the grenade was inert."
