8 People Injured After Pickup Runs Traffic Light In South Brunswick: Cops

One person remains in serious condition, police said. Authorities are expected to file charges on Friday.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Eight people were injured, including one critically, when a pick-up truck ran a traffic light and was hit by several vehicles on Route 1 Tuesday, South Brunswick police said.

The pickup truck had several juvenile passengers, including three in the rear bed, police said.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a Dodge Ram Pickup ran through a red traffic signal on Whispering Woods Drive and Route 1.

The pickup truck entered the intersection and was struck by multiple cars on the southbound side of the highway. The vehicle overturned and landed upright, police said.

Eight people were injured in the crash. Multiple EMS units responded and took the injured to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

One person, a juvenile, remains in serious condition, police said.

Authorities are expected to file charges in connection with the crash on Friday.

"This crash on Route 1 is a prime example of the issues we are attempting to address as part of the Middlesex County Prosecutor Route 1 Safer Travel Initiative. Our Traffic Safety Bureau is investigating all the facts in this case," South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said. "The actions seen so far show a blatant disregard for the safety of all motorists. I assure you charges will be forthcoming."
