All The Outdoor Activities In Middlesex County This Spring

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Hey, Middlesex County residents, looking for something to do outdoors this spring? The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County is pleased to announce its spring and summer events! There will be opportunities for kids and adults to learn the basics of gardening, for experienced gardeners to sharpen their skills and for bargain hunters to add to their collections.

These events are free of charge and will take place at the EARTH Center in South Brunswick, unless otherwise noted. The Earth Center is located in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park at 42 Riva Avenue, South Brunswick, NJ. Registration is required for most events. Call 732-398-5262.

Growing the Best Strawberries Wednesday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Discuss different varieties of strawberries, how to extend your growing season and how to get the most out of your berry harvest.

Kids Gardening Series: Part 1 Saturday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to noon

Come explore our Children’s Garden, take home start seeds and learn gardening from the experts. This is a new program from our Master Gardeners! Sign up for this workshop or all three in the series.

Protecting Garden Investments Workshop Wednesday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Worried about your garden during the winter months? Join this session and explore topics like seed saving harvesting, preserving, overwintering plants and propagating.

4-H Yard Sale Fundraiser Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kids Gardening Series: Part 2 Saturday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to noon

Delve deeper into the art of gardening and learn just how fun plants can be!

Deer-Resistant Gardens with Native Plants Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to noon

You’ll find deer all over Middlesex County, but they can sometimes see garden projects as a tasty snack. This workshop will teach you which plants are the most tolerant and least attractive to deer.

Growing Foods that Heal Wednesday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m.

This workshop will focus on food as medicine. By growing and eating the right foods, you and your family can look forward to wellness, more energy and better immunity.

Pond Exploration for Kids Saturday, July 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Explore a pond and see how many insects, frogs, fish and plants you can find! Test the water and learn how to keep our ponds healthy. Supplies will be provided, but kids should wear rain boots.

Middlesex County’s EARTH Center is home to the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County and part of a nationwide network that brings the research of the State land-grant universities to residents. Offices throughout New Jersey are cooperatively funded by the County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Rutgers University-New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
