Here Are The Homework-Free Holidays For 2025-26 In South Brunswick Schools
The district's initiative aims to give students a break to spend time with family and enjoy outdoor activities.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The South Brunswick School District will continue its policy of "homework-free nights" on major holidays. This will allow students to take breaks from assignments and projects.
The initiative aims to provide students with opportunities to pursue personal interests, spend time with family, and engage in outdoor activities without academic pressure.
According to Education Weekly, high school students typically face 3.5 hours of homework daily. Research from Stanford University indicates that students in high-performing districts who spend excessive time on homework may experience increased stress, physical health issues, social isolation, and poor work-life balance.

In a letter to district families, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, Evelyn Mamman, highlighted the importance of having “homework-free nights.”
“While purposeful homework can reinforce learning and foster essential skills, it’s equally important to cultivate a healthy balance between school and personal life,” Mamman said. “We encourage families to make the most of these periods to recharge and reconnect.”
