Middlesex Co. Sheriff's Office To Hold 11th Annual Civilian Academy

The Civilian Academy is designed to educate county residents on the various functions and duties of the Sheriff's Office.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will hold an 8-week-long Sheriff’s Civilian Academy for county residents in the Fall of 2024.

The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is designed to educate Middlesex County residents on the various functions and duties of the Sheriff’s Office.

Applications are now being accepted for the program, which will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, in Sayreville.

The first session is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19. Classes will continue weekly on Thursdays and one Saturday class.

The program culminates with a graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 21. Each session will highlight functions of the Sheriff’s Office including K-9, Transportation, Fingerprinting, DARE, Courts, Civil Process and Foreclosures among others.

Participants also will tour the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and the Main Courthouse located in New Brunswick.

“The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is a wonderful way for us to reach out to the residents of Middlesex County. It is part of our mission to protect and serve the public. Our goal is to give Academy participants a better understanding of the role of the Sheriff’s Office that they can take back into their communities,” Sheriff Mildred Scott said.

Applications are due no later than Aug. 12. The application will be used to determine suitability for the program

. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside within the County, have no felony convictions, not be wanted for any crime, and submit to a limited background check.
