The search process begins with hiring a search firm.

“Hiring a new superintendent is a little bit different than hiring teachers or even principals. There's so much involved that we want to make sure we get it right, because having the right superintendent is probably the most important thing that your board is going to do,” Hernandez said.

“So we're hiring a search firm that does a lot of the vetting for us and brings the candidates in.”

The ad hoc committee has narrowed the search down to three firms. On May 29 the BOE will interview the three firms, with a decision to follow soon.

The search firm will be making a presentation to the community on June 19.

“They will bring their whole plan to the full board and let us know how we're going to go forward from there,” Hernandez said.

According to the BOE president, the goal is to hire a new superintendent by October 15, with an interim superintendent starting on August 15.

Meanwhile, Hernandez met with several stakeholders, including the president of the teachers' union, the president of the administrators' union, to get all their input.

The full board will be involved in all interviews, and the search firm will handle vetting and candidate selection.

The new superintendent is expected to start on December 15, with a two-month notice period from their current employer.

“We want them to start in December. But if we don't get someone that we love, we're just going to keep the search going,” Hernandez said.

The district aims to ensure a smooth transition and keep stakeholders informed throughout the process.
