South Brunswick Honors 6 Members Of Local Veteran Family With Street Sign Dedication

Six members of the Errickson family were honored for their service to the nation.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - On Saturday, South Brunswick Township hosted a Veteran Street Sign Dedication Ceremony at the intersection of Georges Road and Culver Road in Dayton, to honor the Errickson family, a distinguished local family of veterans.

Six members of the Errickson family — Harold, Kenneth, John, Russell, John, and James Errickson — served in the Military between 1942 and 1976. They were recognized as part of the Township’s Veteran Street Sign Program.

  • Harold George Errickson Jr. was born on Feb. 5, 1921, in Dayton. He was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps on June 20, 1942, during World War II. He served as a Supply Technician with the Army Air Forces in Germany, Central Europe, and Northern France. Affectionately known as 'Pop,’ Harold was honorably discharged on October 11, 1945. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and (EAME) European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with 3 bronze stars.
  • Kenneth Everett Errickson was born on Feb. 20, 1923, in Dayton. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 22, 1943, during World War II. He was a Squad Leader, with an MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) designated Rifleman, in the 102nd Infantry Division, 406th Regiment, and was stationed in Germany. Kenneth was honorably discharged on March 31, 1946. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, receiving the American Campaign Medal, (EAME) European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal.
  • John William Errickson (Bill) was born on Dec. 15, 1924, in Dayton. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 22, 1943, during World War II. He served as an Aviation Metalsmith in the Pacific Theater of Operations for 10 months and 15 days. Bill was honorably discharged on April 20, 1946 having attained the rank of Sergeant.
  • Russell George Errickson was born on Aug. 5, 1946. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 25, 1966, during the Vietnam War. He specialized as an Aircraft Pneudraulic Repair Technician and as a Hydraulic Systems Tester and was stationed at Don Muang Air Force Base in Bangkok, Thailand. Russell was honorably discharged on April 21, 1970. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant on Aug. 1, 1969 and received the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Air Force Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and an Air Force Commendation.
  • John William Errickson was born on March 25, 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve (USAR) on February 21, 1970, during the Vietnam War. John served as a Jungle School Officer and was ordered to active duty from January 3 to October 29, 1971, in jungle warfare in Vietnam. He transitioned back to USAR November 3, 1971, after completing his active-duty requirement. John was honorably discharged on Jan. 23, 1976. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant on Feb. 21, 1971. Receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Army Commendation Medal (awarded for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service), The Army AIR Medal (awarded to recognize meritorious service or achievement performed under combat conditions where he was personally exposed to hostile action or under significant risk of hostile action).
  • James Harold Errickson was born on Dec. 6, 1947. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 28, 1967, during the Vietnam War. James specialized as an Airplane Jet Engine Mechanic, with a focus on the F-4 Phantom jets of the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Airfield near Saigon, Vietnam, which was the headquarters of the US 7th Air Force (7 AF) during the Vietnam War. The 7 AF was the Air Component Command of Military Assistance Command (MACV) in Vietnam. Jim was honorably discharged on Feb. 26, 1971. Jim attained the rank of Staff Sergeant July 1, 1970 and received the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Air Force Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and an Air Force Commendation Medal.

Numerous family members, friends, and fellow residents joined Mayor Charlie Carley, Deputy Mayor Ken Bierman, Councilwoman Patty Germain, and Councilwoman Archana Grover at the ceremony honoring the Errickson Family for their distinguished and enduring service to our Nation and their Town.
