South Brunswick Student Musician Named 2024 YoungArts Award Winner

The student was selected from more than 9,000 applications across 10 artistic disciplines.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A student from South Brunswick High School was named 2024 YoungArts award winner.

Vishal Kumar (flute) was selected from the classical music discipline. Kumar were among the nearly 700 to be chosen for the award, the YoungArts foundation said.

All students selected this year are among "the most accomplished young visual, literary and performing artists from across the country, heralding the next generation of artists to watch," according to YoungArts.

This year, winners were selected from more than 9,000 applications across 10 artistic disciplines – classical music, dance, design, film, jazz, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, and writing.

Each award winner will receive a monetary award of $250.

SchoolYoungArts award winners are selected through a highly competitive application, that is reviewed by panels of esteemed, discipline-specific artists in a rigorous adjudication process, according to YoungArts.

"It is an extraordinary privilege to welcome these brilliant young artists into the YoungArts community," YoungArts President Clive Chang said in a statement. "We're honored to recognize and encourage these artists at this critical stage in their careers, and we're looking forward to playing an active, ongoing role in what will no doubt be an incredible artistic journey for each of them."

YoungArts award winners join a distinguished group of accomplished artists including Timothée Chalamet, Viola Davis, Amanda Gorman, Judith Hill, Jennifer Koh, Desmond Richardson and Hunter Schafer.
