Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around South Brunswick. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.


Cook’s Market At Rutgers Gardens

When: Friday, May 24 - 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Where: Rutgers Gardens, 130 Log Cabin Road, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
What: Every Friday from May to December, this farmer’s market makes its way to Rutgers Garden, selling seasonal produce, fresh-baked goods and other locally grown and made wares. CKY At Starland Ballroom

When: Friday, May 24 - 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
Where: Starland Ballroom, 570 Jernee Mill Rd., Sayreville, NJ 08872
What: Veteran rock and roll band CKY — with tour credits including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and Deftones — celebrates their sonic rebirth with a show at Starland Ballroom. Tickets are open to all ages; alcohol is available to attendees 21 and older.

NJ Jerk Fest

When: Sunday, May 26 - 1:00-8:00 p.m.
Where: Boyd Park, New Brunswick, NJ 08904
What: The annual NJ Jerk Fest celebrates all things Jerk, from chicken to fish to ice cream. Stop by Boyd Park for Caribbean cuisine, live music, shopping, kids’ activities and beautiful views of the Raritan River. Tickets start at $10; all sales are final.

Dale Elliot Jr. “No Hard Feelings”

When: Sunday, May 26, 2024 - 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) and 9:30 p.m. (9:00 p.m.)
Where: Stress Factory New Brunswick, 90 Church St., New Brunswick, NJ 08901
What: After a sold-out debut, Jamaican-born comedian Dale Elliott Jr. returns to the Stress Factory for his “No Hard Feelings” tour. The stand-up comedy performance is open to guests aged 16+; tickets are required for entry. Seating is first come first served, with a two-item minimum per person.
