There's no such thing as a free cookie, at least not on April Fool's Day at Cait & Abby's. A thread on a local message board, Maplewood Online, titled "Cait & Abby's offers full apology - free cookies - today only!" appeared on Friday morning, April 1.
The apology reportedly refers to a customer service issue, but there were no cookies on offer, according to bakery employees, who knew nothing of the online advertisement. Early in the morning, they reported that no one had come asking for free cookies. However, by midday, some customers standing outside Cait & Abby's were wondering aloud if the offer was valid.
Updated, 4 p.m.: A number of readers contacted Patch saying that they did go into the bakery and ask for cookies, and were told that the offer was a prank.
