UPDATED: Columbia High Will Be Open Tuesday!

Updated at 5:39 p.m.: Columbia High School will be open on Tuesday, September 13 with a modified 4-hour day schedule to allow for generator installation to restore full power following today's power outage.

Period 1 will begin at 7:30 a.m.  Dismissal will be at 12:01 p.m..  Lunch service will be available in the cafeteria until 1:00 p.m.  Staff will have a full day.

As of 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, PSE&G crews were on site at Columbia High School working to restore power. School district officials were hoping for imminent restoration but were looking at alternative sources of power if necessary to get students back in classrooms.

After South Orange-Maplewood Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Osborne announced before 7 a.m. that the start of school would be delayed today, the school district then cancelled all CHS classes and activities for the day before 9 a.m. stating that the high school was suffering a "complete power outage."

Osborne also announced that other district schools are NOT affected and students should report on time.

Judith Levy, Director of Communications for the school district, said that the school had lost power "due to equipment failure."

Levy said that the superintendent, PSE&G and other staff met with Bill Kyle, Property Services Director, early Monday afternoon.
