Essex Men Shot in East Orange Armed Robbery

Two men were shot in East Orange after an attempted armed robbery.

Two Essex County men were shot during an attempted armed robbery in East Orange early Sunday morning, Feb 22., authorities said.

The men were shot multiple times around 1:30 a.m. Sunday during an apparent armed robbery near the intersection of William and Prospect streets, according to nj.com.

The victims were a 29-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both of Newark. The names of neither man have been released. The 29-year-old victim was shot three times in the abdomen and the 40-year-old man suffered five gunshot wounds to his legs and groin, nj.com reported.

Both were taken to a local hospital and were reportedly in stable condition.

According to nj.com, police have charged one of the two men with two counts each of aggravated assault, robbery, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of a handgun and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.
