Pastor Terry L. Richardson's tenure has seen growth and change

When Reverend Terry L. Richardson, MDiv., was named pastor of in South Orange in 1997, there was one worship service. A testament of his leadership and vision for the church,  there are now three services and a host of ministries and programs to accommodate the growing congregation of more than 400 members and its weekly visitors. The church located at the corner of Second and Valley Streets also has plans for expansion.

Next month, members and supporters will honor Richardson for his service to the church and community. The event will be held at in West Orange, NJ, February 16, 2012 at 6 p.m. Richardson will be joined by his wife, NaDeen, sons Deven, Jeremiah and daughter Kayla. Reverend Darryl Godluck of Calvert County Baptist Church of Prince Frederick, Maryland, will be the featured speaker.

Richardson says under his leadership First Baptist Church, which recently celebrated 116 years in the township, has grown to be more Christ-centered, community-focused and inclusive. During this year, greater emphasis will be placed on programs to benefit youth in the church and community, says Reverend Richardson. He has also introduced a year long Bible study, the E100 Bible Reading Challenge by Scripture Union, which is designed to review the Bible in its entirety during 2012 through small group discussions and study on Wednesday evenings at the church.
