Food, Memories and Mom: A Patch Contest

Submit memories in time to win a prize perfect for Mother's Day

As if it was yesterday, I remember learning how to make stuffed cabbage from Lisa’s mother, and sharing spekelaks with Cheryl’s oma. And my own mother made cakes to celebrate pet’s birthdays, each cake decorated to resemble the pet.

Whether Shake & Bake or Cordon Bleu, family and food are linked in memory for many of us. As Mother’s Day approaches, South Orange Patch asks you to share a memory of a mother and a meal for publication and a prize.  (Fathers will have their turn in June, for Father’s Day.)

In 200 words, more or less, tell us about the Carne Asada your mother made, or the zeppole your grandmother was known for. Maybe it was your best friend’s mom, whose cabbage and potatoes is a memory you hold dear. No matter; tell us about a food you recall fondly, whether because you loved the taste or cherish the occasion. Describe the woman who made that food, and share your (or her) local connection with us.  We’d love to have a photo, too, of you, of her, of the food – whatever says mom to you.
