Seton Hall Launches SHUSafe Off-Campus Patrols
Enhanced safety around the university is the goal

It's new, it's Pirate Blue, and it circles SHU. The "SHUSafe" is Seton Hall’s new off campus patrol vehicle. In addition, they university debuts a new campus shuttle to augment the SHU-FLY bus during night-time hours.
According to Pat Linfante, Director of Seton Hall Campus Security, the “University Zone patrol” will benefit both students and South Orange residents.
“We’re there to be a presence and provide assistance to our students in that zone,” said Linfante, “In addition we will alert the police to any incident whether student or citizen related that would require a law-enforcement response. “

South Orange Village Police Chief James M. Chelel said this is just the most recent example of how Seton Hall and South Orange are working together.
“We’ve developed a great relationship with Seton Hall over the years and this is another example of how well we work together.” said Chief Chelel. “Unfortunately, the Police can’t be in every area of the Village at once. This gives the department an extra set of eyes and ears.”

South Orange Village President Alex Torpey is also excited about the initiative. “I'm excited to be able to embark on this new public safety partnership with Seton Hall. There is a lot of positive energy coming from South Orange and the University right now and I think this will net great things for both communities as we continue working together.”
Another safety measure Seton Hall is introducing this school year is the SHU Safe Ride. This service provides a free, reliable escort service to transport members of the University community to and from the main campus to locations in the immediate vicinity that are not on the SHUFLY shuttle route. This escort service is available for transportation to and from the Public Safety building.
SHU Safe Ride was specifically designed to provide a safe transportation alternative for those traveling the streets in and around campus and is available daily, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. to all members of the Seton Hall University community.
