SHU Setonian Garners 12 National Awards

The Setonian, Seton Hall University's student-run newspaper and website, won 12 awards in the 2010-2011 New Jersey College Newspaper Contest.

The awards were selected by active or former editors, writers and photographers of New Jersey Press Association member newspapers.

First Place Awards:

Seniors Brian Wisowaty and Jessica Sutcliffe took home a first-place award in the deadline reporting category for The Setonian.com's coverage of the fatal off-campus shooting of Jessica Moore.

Sophomore Emily Lake won first place honors for "Exploring Exorcism."

Setonian cartoonist Mark Buryk took first place for an editorial cartoon.

Second Place Awards:

Sophomore Chris Paizis took second-place award for a profile of Seton Hall Law alumnus David Murphy who appeared on the CBS television show "Survivor."

Sutcliffe took second place in the investigative reporting category for "Allergic Reaction."

Junior Milan Stanic received second place award for sports photography.

Third Place Awards:

Junior Nicholas Parco received third place for feature on the St. Patrick's statue at Cryan's

Junior Brenden Higashi won a third-place award for a column, "All Catholic views on LGBTQ issues should be heard."

Wisowaty and Sutcliffe took a third-place award, for deadline coverage of the false sexual assault incident from this fall on The Setonian.com.

Former Setonian Editor in Chief, now a graduate, Meghan St. John and Wisowaty earned third-place for a report on the firing of former head basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez.

Former Pirate Life editor Dana Cassidy and current student Mustafa Ziberi won third prize for a review.
