Join us for more fun and entertainment at the Springfield Street Fair on Sunday, October 14!

Turning Pointe Dance Center is located at 191 Mountain Avenue in Springfield and 565 Rahway Avenue in Union.  The 2012-13 dance season began on Friday, September 7th and there is still time to register for classes.

Classes for girls and boys ages 2 through adult are offered 6 days a week in Acrobatics, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Little Movers, Modern, Music Video Hip Hop, Musical Theater, Pointe and Tap. Our “Little Movers” class is for our youngest dancers ages 2-3. TPDC also has an award winning Competition Team. All classes are under the artistic direction of owner Julie Otani, who holds a B.F.A. in dance from Montclair State University. She is also certified by the U.S. Gymnastics Federation. “Regardless of whether a student takes one weekly class or many, we have exciting opportunities for artistic growth” says Ms. Otani. “We tailor classes for each dancer’s age, experience, talent and desire.”

The staff at TPDC prides itself on providing exceptional dance opportunities and is committed to helping each child reach their personal best, while continuously striving to give innovative, quality instruction. At TPDC we value each student and appreciate how hard parents work to give their children an education in the arts. The benefits of a dance education are numerous. Students learn coordination and creativity while building endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. They also improve memorization skills and learn about commitment, self-discipline, team work, perseverance and the joy of accomplishment.

This past year, the TPDC Dance Team competed at the Star Systems Competition, Dance Educators of America and Dance Explosion. Choreography by several of the TPDC staff was highly acclaimed, winning Outstanding Choreography awards at the Dance Educators of America Dance Competition in Atlantic City as well as the Star Systems Competition and Dance Explosion. Dancers received top honors in contemporary, modern, jazz, and hip hop categories qualifying them to attend National Competitions.
We are always challenging our students and offering new avenues for growth and methods to reach their goals as dancers!  Guest artists frequently teach master classes at TPDC. Recently Victor Smalley of “So You Think You Can Dance” and Angel Armas of “Dance Moms: Miami” visited the dance center’s Springfield location to teach contemporary and jazz master classes.  These sold out classes were open to all TPDC students.  Students were inspired and motivated by their unique style and enthusiastic teaching. Mia Diaz, Carly Robertson and Lucas Triana from the popular Lifetime television show “Dance Moms: Miami” assisted in these workshops and danced with team members and master class participants.

Turning Pointe Dance Center provides safe off street parking and a spacious waiting room in both the Springfield and Union locations. The center in Springfield is located at 191 Mountain Avenue in Springfield, NJ (across from the Springfield fire house). The Union studio is on the second floor of the Sunburst Gymnastics building at 565 Rahway Avenue.
