Watts Scholarship for Mountainside Applicants Now Available

The Blanche M. and George L. Watts Mountainside Community Foundation is now accepting applications from graduating seniors residing in Mountainside — regardless of the location of the students’ high school — to assist them in attending the college or university of their choice. The scholarship committee will also consider applications from students applying to associate degree programs at community colleges and certificate programs at accredited technical or trade schools.

The Foundation annually provides one or more college scholarships, in an amount of up to $20,000, that’s payable in eight semi-annual installments of up to $2,500. The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need, academic competency (we are not necessarily looking for “A” students), community involvement, and merit.

Blanche and George Watts were longtime Mountainside residents when they passed. Mrs. Watts was a schoolteacher, and Mr. Watts was employed by Western Electric. Their Foundation was created in 2005 to support a wide range of community needs — from providing local students with scholarship assistance and helping the school district fund important educational programs to supporting charitable organizations and volunteer-run departments that benefit the residents of Mountainside.
