Burglars Break Into Home With Residents Inside In Union County: Police

Theives went inside the occupied home early Wednesday morning, stole car keys, and stole two of the resident's vehicles, said police.

SUMMIT, NJ — Burglars broke into a Summit home with residents inside to steal car keys and two cars early Wednesday morning, said Summit

At around 5 a.m., an unknown number of suspects entered an occupied home in the 200 block of Ashland Road through an open rear door, said police.

While inside, the suspects found and stole two sets of vehicle keys and then fled the scene in two BMWs — a 2024 BMW X7 and a 2021 BMW X3 — belonging to the residents, said police.

There was no interaction between the suspects and any occupants of the home during the theft.

Although unconfirmed, initial information suggests the suspects may have arrived in a red 2016 Hyundai Sonata stolen out of Newark. That vehicle was left behind at the scene and has been recovered by Detectives, said police.

The Summit Police Department is actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information or surveillance footage related to this event is encouraged to contact the Summit Police Department at 908-273-0051.

"Residents are reminded to lock all doors, secure valuables, and report any suspicious activity promptly," said police.
