Downtown Summit Park & Shop Lots Nearly Complete

The City of Summit has issued the following updates on parking lot repairs. The repairs were put in place as a result of town council support for paid shopper parking.  

Lot 3 – DeForest and Summit Avenues

Equipment installation has begun and will be completed week of September 4, 2012. All electrical work has been inspected. Ancillary items (signs, bollards, bike rakes, recycling, etc) will be installed as delivered. Re-striping of directional arrows will be completed. The majority of trees and evergreen shrubs will be planted in the coming weeks. Those species of trees not available for fall planting will be planted in the spring of 2013.

Lot 2 – DeForest and Maple Avenues

After the opening of Lot #1 for additional parking, work will continue on Lot #2 to include concrete pouring of the entrance island and pay station area. Electrical wiring and equipment will be installed. . The majority of trees and evergreen shrubs will be planted in the coming weeks. Those species of trees not available for fall planting will be planted in the spring of 2013.

Lot 1 – Deforest and Woodland Avenues

All efforts are focused to get Lot 1 re-opened for available parking spaces by the week of September 10, if not sooner. Approximately half of the curbing and drainage is installed. There has been some delay with the drainage work due to unforeseen conditions that were discovered when the existing drainage structures were uncovered. 

In addition, the City Forester inspected the two larger oaks at the north end of the parking lot #1 which were found to be unstable and recommended that they be removed and replacement trees added.

PROJECT COMPLETION

Training and testing of all equipment and for the Parking Services staff will progress simultaneously as the physical work on each lot is completed.

It is still too early to predict the actual start date for the paid shopper parking program but it will be within the coming weeks.
