SUMMIT, NJ — Former mayor of Summit Jordan Glatt, the first Democratic leader of the city, is endorsing candidate Rebecca Bennett in the battle for New Jersey's 7th congressional district.

Glatt, who retired in 2011 after being elected in 2003, now works as a special assistant to the president at Centenary University. The school is currently led by Dale Caldwell, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor.

“As a former Mayor I know how important it is to have your Congressperson available to your constituents and other elected officials,” says Glatt. “Rebecca Bennett will be that Congressperson.”

Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot and officer in the Air National Guard, says she is "proud to have his endorsement" and that they are both "commonsense, pragmatic leaders." She is one of a group of eight Democratic candidates who will face off against two-term Representative Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) on Nov. 4.

“Mayor Glatt knows how Tom Kean Jr.’s votes to increase our cost of living, gut Medicaid, raise health care premiums, and strip food assistance from thousands of our neighbors will impact families and our towns," Bennett adds. The mother of two young girls adds this latest endorsement to others already from New Politics, VoteVets, Square One Politics, Vote Mama, and Taking the Hill PAC.
