Lawton C. Johnson Students Host Bake Sale Thursday to Benefit Typhoon Victims

Bake sale starts at 3 p.m. in the main lobby of the school.

Tessa Pulgar, a Lawton C. Johnson Middle School student, is spearheading a bake sale as a way to raise funds for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Philippines earlier this month, leaving nearly 4,000 dead and approximately 3 million people displaced, according to CNN.com.

The sale will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday in the main lobby concourse of the school.

Pulgar's dad said many students have gotten involved to show their support for the cause by donating cookies and cakes. Dunkin' Donuts, on Union Place, as well as Natale's Bakery have also contributed to help raise funds, which will be donated to AmeriCares.

Pulgar's grandparents and cousins live in the Philippines. "They are all ok and doing their part to help," Pulgar's father said.
