'Screen on the Green' Concludes With Date Night Movie

Four movies were screened in this summer's movie series on the Village Green, which were all free for residents thanks to several sponsors.

Hilltoppers gathered at the Village Green for the last movie in Summit's "Screen on the Green" 2013 Movie Series.

"Somewhere in Time," a romantic, adults-only film with Christopher Reeve, was shown on a huge screen, and moviegoers enjoyed free popcorn and a complimentary photo booth.

Judith Josephs, Summit's Director of Community Programs, told Patch in July that this movie series is completely free for residents thanks to all of the sponsors.

Most movies in this series catered to young Summit residents. Those movies included:

  • Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
  • Toy Story
  • Rise of the Guardians
Each included a dance party and a theme for each night.
Josephs told Patch in July that this movie series, which began in 2011, features a giant 30-foot screen that is inflated, and features “cinema sound and project clarify of today’s best BluRay players,” according to the movie series website.

The movie series also won the 2013 New Jersey Recreation and Park Association’s Excellence in Visual and Cultural Events Programs Award, Josephs said.

Josephs said all summer programs sponsored by the Department of Community Programs is made possible through corporate sponsors.

“Everything we do in the summer, we have to generate the revenue,” Josephs told Patch in July. “We had to find sponsors for the Fourth of July, the Hot Summer Nights Concerts, the movies. At the movies, we actually show preview roles and we show commercials and ads, and that’s how we pay for it.”

The sponsors for the 2013 “Screen on the Green” Movie Series included:
