Summit Election Results: Hamlet Leads In Ward 1, County Clerk Says
Three candidates are vying for two open seats on Summit Common Council this year.

SUMMIT, NJ — The polls are now closed in the General Election, and the unofficial vote tallies are in.
Republican Delia Hamlet is leading over incumbent Democrat Danny O'Sullivan for the Summit Ward 1 seat with all districts reporting, according to the Union County Clerk. The results are not official until certified by the County Clerk.

The unofficial tally shows that Hamlet is ahead of O'Sullivan by 76 votes. Spokesperson Amy Cairns told Patch that provisional, mail-in and absentee ballots have not all been counted as of Wednesday morning.
Incumbent Councilwoman Lisa Allen (R) ran unopposed in Ward 2 and will maintain her seat on council.

O'Sullivan provided the following statement to Patch:
"I’m incredibly grateful to all of our volunteers and supporters who worked for my re-election. The race for this Ward 1 seat is too close to call at this point. The mail-in ballots and provisionals will be counted very soon and I look forward to seeing the results."
Hamlet did not yet respond to a request for comment.

The vote tallies remain unofficial until they are certified later by the Union County Clerk.
