Summit Detective Sergeant Ryan Peters Promoted To Captain

Peters has served the Summit Police Department for over 14 years.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Police Department promoted Detective Sergeant Ryan Peters to Captain this month.

Peters has served the police department for over 14 years but didn't always start in law enforcement. He attended Towson University, graduating in 2005 where he pursued a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration of Finance. Upon completion of college, Captain Peters began a career in finance with Morgan Stanely; achieving several certifications, including the Series 7. Peters' family was involved in law enforcement, and he decided to make the career switch after conversations with family. Peters attended Monmouth County Police Academy as an Alternate Route Candidate, graduating 2nd in his class and was hired by the Summit Police Department in 2007.

Peters served in many capacities, including on the Patrol Bureau, Juvenile Detective Sergeant and Commander of the Community Services Bureau. Most recently, he as Accreditation Manager for the Summit Police Department. He has been responsible for overseeing the revision and development of 60+ standard operating procedures for the agency over the last 10-months.

Peters has also been an active member of the Union County Emergency Response Team (UCERT) and the Union County SWAT Team.

"Over the course of his 14+ year career with the Summit Police Department, Captain Peters has received numerous letters of commendation, appreciation and awards from both citizens and other law enforcement agencies," the department wrote about him on Facebook.
